A touching moment unfolded at Jersey Mike’s Subs in Markham on April 15, when nine-year-old Ionna from Richmond Hill was surprised with the news that her wish to visit her favorite theme park is coming true — thanks to a partnership between Jersey Mike’s Subs and Make-A-Wish Canada.
Ionna, who was diagnosed with leukemia during the pandemic while visiting her grandparents in the Philippines, has faced more than her share of challenges. COVID-19 travel restrictions delayed her return to Canada and the start of her treatment, making an already difficult experience even more trying.
“She’s such a brave girl,” said her mother, Eunice. “Despite being in pain, she always showed love and care to others. Her legs became so weak from treatment that she could barely walk or stand, but she never stopped trying.”
The wish reveal is part of Jersey Mike’s ongoing support for Make-A-Wish Canada. Since 2024, the sandwich chain has raised nearly $95,000, helping to grant nine wishes for children facing critical illnesses in the local community.
Ionna’s story is one of resilience and hope — and now, thanks to the generosity of Jersey Mike’s and Make-A-Wish, she’s one step closer to experiencing a dream come true.
