
York Regional Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a home in Markham, Ontario, where one woman and a dog were killed. The incident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on Friday at a residence on Solace Road, which has previously been targeted in multiple shootings.
Const. Kevin Nebrija confirmed that officers responded to reports of gunfire at the home. Upon arrival, they found two adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where the woman was later pronounced dead. The man, 26, is in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.
A German Shepherd was also shot and killed in the attack, and police confirmed that the dog was deceased when officers arrived on the scene.
The woman has been identified as 20-year-old Nilakshi Raguthas, a resident of Markham. The male victim’s identity has not been released.
Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the attack, but they noted that the home had been targeted several times in the past. The investigation is ongoing.
